Color of Language

He thought it was safe
To finally say, Ain’t.
Proud man
Crayola skin
Licorice stick colors
Most leave in box for another.

Little did he know
World said no.
Slang…you… will not go.
O.K. for majority lawyer,
sportscaster, entertainer;
symbol - engaged in the world.
Not you brown-eyed child
For you accusation
less than… outside… foreign… street.

He thought it was safe
To finally say, Ain't
Without skipping beat.

Little did he know
World still said no.
Ain't gonna dis us so,
We - who taught you to speak.

Dis…what?
Now he knew it was safe
To finally say, Ain’t.
But I no longer want to
Been stolen from me
Not going to speak like thee.

Little did he know
World would say, Ho!
Say it ain’t so
Licorice stick thinks he better than we?

He thought it must finally
be safe to say, Ain’t.

Assuming he was free…

Little did he know?
World said, Hell no!
It ain’t so.
Will not be.

He sighed -
Perhaps for the children
If not me.
